Habits

A habit tracker that sits beside your day.

Check in with one tap, keep a streak that only counts the days a habit is due, and find today's habits at the top of My Day: next to the plan, not in another app.

  • Daily, weekly goals or chosen days
  • Fair streaks
  • Shown in My Day

Tap a habit to check in for today: the streak, the week and today's bar all move.

What is a habit tracker?

A habit tracker is a list of things you want to do regularly, ticked once a day, with a streak that shows how many due days in a row you've kept it. In Freely, a free to-do list and daily planner, habits have their own screen and also sit at the top of My Day, so the routine is right next to the plan.

Step by step

How to start a habit in Freely

  1. Name it

Open Habits and type a name, such as Drink water. The icon picks itself as you type; tap it to choose another, and pick a colour.

  2. Set the goal

Choose Daily, 5×/wk or 3×/wk. Or pick weekdays, such as Mon, Wed and Fri, and the habit only counts, and only shows in My Day, on those days.

  3. Check in

Tap the circle once a day; tap it again to undo today. On the days it's due, the habit also waits under Today's habits in My Day.

  4. Fix a day you forgot

Did it yesterday but didn't tick it? Tap that day in the two-week trail under the habit.

  5. Arrange them

Hold a habit and drag it to reorder, or give it a Show first number so it leads on its days. Swipe left to delete it, with Undo.

Fair streaks

A streak that knows your schedule

A streak counts the due days in a row you checked in, and skips the days a habit isn't due. A habit set for Mon, Wed and Fri keeps its streak over the weekend, and today only counts against it once today is over.

  • This week's count, such as 2/3 this wk, shows the last seven days against your goal
  • The two-week trail shows each day at a glance, and fixes a missed tick with a tap
  • Finish the last habit due today and Freely celebrates
Run 6 days· 3/3 this wk· Mon Wed Fri

Three runs a week, never on the weekend, and the streak keeps growing.

Habits and My Day

Your routine, at the top of today's plan

On the days a habit is due, it appears under Today's habits at the top of My Day, ticked with one tap, with a count of how many are done. Every check-in also earns XP toward your level, which Analytics shows with your week in review.

On every device

Check in anywhere, lose nothing

Merged day by day

Check-ins from your phone and your laptop are joined day by day, so a tick on one never wipes out a tick on the other.

Offline too

Habits are kept on the device, so you can check in without a connection; they're saved as soon as you're back online.

In your backup

Settings → Back up downloads your habits with your tasks, lists and notes, as one file you keep.

Honest limits

What Freely's habits don't do

  • Once a day. A habit is done or not done for the day. Counting glasses or minutes isn't there.
  • No habit reminders. Habits don't send reminders. Give a task a time if you need a nudge.
  • Habits are yours alone. Unlike lists, they can't be shared.

Questions

Tracking habits: questions

Does missing a day break my streak?

Only a day the habit was due. The streak counts the due days in a row you checked in, so a habit set for Mon, Wed and Fri keeps its streak over the weekend. If you did it and forgot to tick, tap that day in the trail.

Can a habit be for certain weekdays only?

Yes. Pick the weekdays when you add it, or later under ✎. It then counts, and shows in My Day, only on those days.

What's the difference between a habit and a repeating task?

A repeating task is one thing to do that comes back: ticking it off makes the next one, and it can be overdue. A habit is a routine you check in on, with a streak and a two-week trail, and it never piles up as overdue.
